College & Career
It is never too early to start thinking about the future. Students can be inspired through education and therein begin the pursuit of a fulfilling lifetime career. It is in middle school that students develop lasting attitudes about learning, work and values. At Adele, our staff makes the most of this pivotal time to encourage students to explore their interests by taking a variety of courses, participating in our wide range of extra and co-curricular activities, and finding time for introspection. Our teachers motivate students to plan for their future by integrating career and college planning themes into every day curriculum. Adele students begin by exploring different occupations using the KuderĀ® System to bring their own interests into focus. Specific class time is set aside for students to watch interesting videos of career professionals, read information about different careers and complete surveys that help to uncover their interests, skills and values. The KuderĀ® System also shows students how to connect their academic and nonacademic interests to college majors and careers. By the time they are in the 8th grade, Adele students have formulated an educational plan and with Sonoma Valley High School's extensive College Advising and Career Center, students are prepared to get the most out of High School and to fulfill their longer-term college and career goals. In the spring, Adele's Counseling Department also hosts an annual Career Day during which some 20 speakers from the community visit and share information with students about their pathway from education to career. Career Day is exciting, inspirational and enlightening for our Middle School students, as they see first hand how the choices they make today enable them to achieve their dreams for the future.
